
Quail Unlimited was established in 1981 to battle the problem of dwindling quail and wildlife habitat, Quail Unlimited has become the only national, nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to the wise management and conservation of America's wild quail as a valuable and renewable resource. This chapters primary focus is habitat on in our National Forests, California Department Of Fish & Game Properties, and Bureau of Land Management land and located in Southern California.
In the last five years Quail Unlimited Chapters:
Spent $8.46 million chapter dollars on habitat improvement projects.
Were responsible for $9.48 million in habitat expenditures through chapters, partners and value of seed distributed.
Planted 9.7 million pounds of seed on 847,000 acres.
Planted 42,200 acres of native warm season grasses.
Purchased 212,000 pounds of special food plot mixes planted on 28,400 acres.
Planted 126,000 pounds of lespedeza on 10,200 acres.
Planted 765,000 miles of wildlife food plots.
Planted 373,000 trees and shrubs.
Conducted prescribed burning on 254,000 acres.
Spent $165,000 assisting state and federal agencies on 13,200 acres of private land conservation programs (first recorded in 2004).
Purchased, rented or maintained 890 pieces of equipment for habitat development.
Developed or maintained 1,070 wildlife-watering sites.
Sponsored 2,600 youth activities, projects, camps, etc.
Reached 990,000 youth with activities such as habitat projects, hunter education, conservation programs, scholarships, school events and youth groups.
Sponsored 100 landowner/farmer events attended by 7,300 people.
Sponsored 160 research projects nationally.
Conducted 360 wildlife surveys in cooperation with state and federal wildlife agencies.
Improved 40,000 acres of habitat through conservation mowing, spraying, disking and brush management.
Purchased 300 tons of fertilizer for wildlife plantings.
Paid for 3,700 hours of contract labor.
